Italian Activists Declared Honor Guests of Eastern Bayamo City

Bayamo, Cuba, May 2 (ACN) Italian activists Franco Zunino and Roberto Casella, two friends of Cuba, were granted the condition of Honor Guests of this eastern city, cradle of Cuban Nationality, for their constant support of the Cuban people and their Revolution.

The condition was granted by Bayamo’s Municipal Government during the official welcome to the Gino Done Paro solidarity brigade, made up of eight members.

The recognition of the two activists stresses their actions in different scenarios since 1997 and their contribution, along other members of the Italy’s Solidarity-with-Cuban Movement, to the Cuban people’s everyday life, such as the donation of cooling equipment for medication stocks of local drugstores, repairs of education and healthcare facilities.

Roberto Casella described the local government’s gesture as significant and said that it encourages them to keep working for Cuba.

The Italian brigade was named after Italian revolutionary Gino Done Paro (1924-2008), who joined the Granma expedition which, under the command of Fidel Castro, landed in eastern Cuba December 2, 1956 to launch the Cuban Revolution that ousted the tyranny of dictator Fulgencio Batista.

Cuban Friendship Institute official in Bayamo, Zequiel Morales, told ACN that the activists are in Bayamo to participate at celebrations for International Workers’ Day and carry out other activities of cultural interest.
