HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 17 (ACN) Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, congratulated today the members of the Anti-Aircraft Defense and Revolutionary Air Force (DAAFAR by its Spanish acronym) on the 62nd anniversary of its creation.
On Twitter, Morales Ojeda highlighted the date and described those who serve in those troops as a sure safeguard of the nation's sovereignty.
In the same social network, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) described the DAAFAR combatants as consecrated men and women of proven loyalty.
April 17 was chosen as the date of DAAFAR's foundation because on that day in 1961 the first joint actions of the air force and the artillery took place during the invasion of Bay of Pigs.
The Anti-Aircraft Defense is designed to fight against the enemy's air and landing means, against those who manage to disembark and to support with aviation the general troops units during the execution of their combat actions, with the objective of avoiding the impunity of their actions and to achieve the greatest influence over them, causing them the maximum possible casualties in their live force.
