Havana, April 5 (ACN) May Day celebrations in Cuba, to mark International Workers’ Day next May 1st, will be a call to boost local production of goods and services to cushion inflation and to recover the purchasing power of Cuban workers’ salaries and pensions, said Ulises Guilarte, general secretary of the Cuban Workers’ Confederation CTC.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Guilarte said that no worker’s march can be stage if it is not focused on the claims the people and the impact by current problems on their everyday life.
The unionist said that the May Day march will be dedicated to the heroism and resistance of the Cuban people who, amidst current shortages and difficulties backed their socialist revolution at the recent parliamentary elections held March 26.
Guilarte said that May Day commemorations will mark the 153rd anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Ilich Lenin, the acknowledgement of unionists, founders and retired workers for their roles, and an encounter of solidarity with Cuba.
