Academies from Cuba, U.S. and Mexico develop fruitful exchange of experiences

MATANZAS, Cuba, Mar 28 (ACN) The scientific and cultural exchange with academies in the state of New York, in the United States, and Guanajuato, Mexico, during March, showed the projection of the local University of Matanzas (UM), in western Cuba, to the global scenario.
Rita Martinez Pichardo, coordinator of UM's internationalization department, stated that the third visit of students and educators from SUNY Old Westbury, U.S.A., from March 20 to 23, and was a success.

The group developed the Cuban Society, History and Culture Program, which included lectures on Afro-Cuban culture, racial and gender issues, and visits to institutions in the city, such as the Slavery Route Museum at the San Severino Castle.

The visitors talked with students of English Language and Art Education, in addition to showing special interest in Cuba's Public Health system during their visit to the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas, said the Program coordinator.

According to the UM's institutional website, Kathleen O'Connor, who teaches at SUNY Oldwestbury, pointed out that they wish to propose a socialization project between both higher education centers, where professionals in English and Spanish can share their knowledge and skills.

This month, the Cuban university received German Rodriguez Frias and Victor Luis Muro Salinas, representing the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, as part of an exchange between members of the International Network for Research in Public and Business Administration (RIIA).
