HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 27 (ACN) Cuban authorities highlighted today the preliminary results of the Sunday vote, which registered 75.92% of participation and validated the election of the 470 candidates proposed for the 10th Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament).
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel remarked on Twitter that the people came out to defend the Revolution despite fierce anti-Cuban campaigns and calls for abstentionism denounced on Sunday by the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
On his end, Esteban Lazo, president of the Parliament, described the election as a victory and a true demonstration of civism, popular participation and socialist democracy, whereas Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez pointed out that the people’s remarkable response and their support for the united vote confirm their decision to keep resisting.
Alina Balseiro, president of the National Electoral Council, stressed that this expression of popular will is to end with the constitution of the Cuban Parliament and its leadership, which will work along with the Council of State and the President and Vice-President of the Republic.
