Today's vote is for women and equality and represents the people, Cuban authorities affirm

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 26 (ACN) Today's vote is to maintain equality and for Cuban women, said Teresa Amarelle Boue, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and secretary general of the Cuban Women's Federation (FMC by its Spanish acronym).

In these national elections we have the historic opportunity to continue deciding our future, because over the years and thanks to the Revolution, women have achieved greater prominence, she said.

After exercising her right to vote at polling station 1, in the third constituency, in the capital's Playa municipality, she told the press that one of the great achievements of Cuban women is the opportunity to decide.

The president of the FMC pointed out that during the last legislature, the challenges in the approval and implementation of the Constitution of the Republic, the Integral Strategy for the Prevention and Attention to Gender Violence and in the family scenario, the National Program for the Advancement of Women and the Family Code were very important.

At present, women represent 53 % of the Cuban Parliament and if the current proposal is confirmed, it will remain the second in the world in terms of the number of women deputies, with 55 %.

For Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), which will form its 10th Legislature in 2023, will represent the Cuban people.

After voting in the first polling station of constituency five in the capital's Cerro municipality, where he is one of the candidates for deputies to the Parliament, Hernandez Nordelo told the press that although the supreme body of state power will have fewer members, they will have the responsibility to think, analyze and act in terms of each inhabitant of the country.

Several changes are expected from the new members through strategies and actions to improve the economy and social work, which will be implemented through laws and measures for the benefit of the people, explained the also member of the Council of State.

According to Hernandez Nordelo, the enemy is spending millions of dollars on Cuba to discourage people, to tell them not to go to the polls and to show that the Revolution does not have the support of the majority of Cubans.

That is why we have come here today, to support the elections as it is happening all over the country, said the Hero of the Republic of Cuba.

After the March 26 elections, the ANPP will finally be made up of 470 deputies who will represent all sectors of Cuban society.
