Havana, March 9 (ACN) Cuban Domestic Trade Minister Betsy Diaz thanked the World Food Program for coordinating donations to assist the people in western Pinar del Rio province, a territory hard hit by hurricane Ian last September.
The World Food Program is the largest humanitarian organization providing food assistance to favor peace, stability and prosperity for the people who recover from conflicts, disasters and the impact of climate change.
The organization, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2020, assists some 128 million people in over 120 countries of the world by distributing food or funds of emergency, nutritional support programs and encouraging the participation of the people in activities developing resilience against the impact of climate change and other phenomena.
The World Food Program started its cooperation with Cuba in 1963 through an emergency operation which offered assistance to the people affected by category 4 hurricane Flora.
