Cuba and Ecuador to hold round of migration talks

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 3 (ACN) Ernesto Soberon, director general of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Living Abroad (DACCRE by its Spanish acronym), will head today in Ecuador the delegation of the island for the 10th round of migration talks between the two nations.

Prensa Latina reported that the meeting will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility in Quito, with the aim of guaranteeing an orderly, regular and safe flow of travelers.

This bilateral consultation mechanism on migration and consular issues will take place at a time when there is an increase in migratory flows around the world, not only of Cuban and Ecuadorian citizens, Soberon stated.

He stressed the importance of resuming talks about existing cooperation mechanisms and adjusting them, as the last round of dialogues on these matters between Cuba and Ecuador took place in 2019.

The objective, he affirmed, is not to reduce travel, but to encourage it, but for it to take place in an orderly manner to prevent citizens from becoming victims of gangs dedicated to illegal migrant smuggling and human trafficking.
