Cuban Authorities Investigate Explosion at Havana Hotel

Authorities from the Cuban Oil Company, the Agency for Protection against Fires, the Interior Ministry and specialized forces are currently investigating the cause for an explosion on Monday at Havana’s Caribbean Hotel.

Carlos Manuel Cabanes, director of the Havana office of the Isla Azul agency which owns the hotel told reporters that at 10:40 am Monday a blast occurred in a fifth floor hotel room.

The floor was submitted to decoration and other works, so there were no guests in its rooms, though one of the workers was injured and was taken to the Calixto Garcia Hospital to treat him for burns, Cabanes said.

No infrastructure damage was reported except for the room where the explosion took place.
