Cuban central province applies third booster against COVID-19

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Feb 3 (ACN) The third booster of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination is being carried out in the province of Cienfuegos, with the administration of a dose of Soberana 02 to several risk groups.

On this occasion, Health, Ministry of the Interior, Revolutionary Armed Forces and Tourism personnel were included, as well as people over 70 years of age, due to their vulnerability to the SARS CoV-2 virus.

Doctor Darehyne Aguila Piña, official of the Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology and head of the Vaccination program of the territory, explained in a press conference that since January 18, more than 26,000 people have been immunized, who represent 60 % of the total number of risk groups.

She added that they also prioritized pregnant women from the third trimester onwards and mothers with nursing babies up to six months old, because the objective is to protect these children with the antibodies received through breast milk.

Also, the expert pointed out, at this stage they recover those cases that at the time of the program did not meet the requirements, such as children who have already reached two years of age, to whom they apply the complete scheme of two doses of Soberana 02 and one dose of Soberana Plus, with a 28-day interval.

Aguila Piña stated that Cienfuegos is part of a project designed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute to immunize the entire population with the Soberana range.

As health authorities have previously warned, in order to have access to the booster, it is necessary to have completed the primary inoculation scheme and to have passed at least six months after the epidemiological discharge, the last dose or the previous booster.

In addition, individuals must not have chronic decompensated diseases, oncological diseases or be allergic to thimerosal, in which case the use of Abdala or Soberana Plus is decided.
