International conference discusses contemporary challenges

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 26 (ACN) Cooperation in the current context, solidarity in response to nuclear weapons and the promotion of spiritual and moral values at the new stage of civilization's development will be among the topics today in 5th International Conference “For World Balance”.

Today’s program features prestigious personalities who will give keynote lectures on the challenges facing today’s world and their link with José Martí’s thoughts as part of the tribute to the 170th anniversary of the birth of Cuba’s National Hero, as well as the panel Martí in Fidel Castro with scholars and other figures who were close to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, such as the Dominican friar Frei Betto, who also gave a lecture on religion and recalled that the Commander-in-Chief was the first communist leader in power who spoke positively about that belief system.

The agenda also includes a round table on open science and ethics in defense of humanity and a debate on hegemony and international politics with a presentation about U.S. imperialism’s role in ideological and cultural dominance.

Convened by the José Martí Project for World Solidarity—sponsored by UNESCO—and coordinated by the Cuban Office of Martí Program (OPM), the 5th International Conference “For World Balance” gathers 1,100 delegates from almost 90 nations.
