Spanish Foreign Minister Grateful to Cuban Hospitality

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 26 (acn) Spanish foreign minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo concluded an official visit to Cuba on Tuesday with a declaration acknowledging the warm hospitality given by the Cuban government and people.

Speaking to the national and foreign press in Havana, the Spanish government official said he was welcomed here with a hospitality that expressed the affection and the close links that have always existed between Cuba and Spain.

He referred to the ongoing update of the Cuban economy and particularly to the growing private initiative, foreign investment, the currency unification and the decentralization of the decision-taking process.

Garcia-Margallo also reiterated the European Union stance against the US economic blockade of Cuba, which was recently reaffirmed at the United Nations given the damage inflicted on Cuban economy.

Garcia-Margallo added that he and foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez talked about the upcoming Ibero-American Summit to take place in Veracruz, the negotiation of a political and cooperation dialog with the European Union and the next Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in Brussels, in June 2015.

The Spanish foreign minister held talks with Cuba´s First Vice-president Miguel Diaz Canel as part of his latest activities in Cuba.
