Leader of the World Federation of Trade Unions Condemns U.S. Blockade of Cuba

Leader of the World Federation of Trade Unions Condemns U.S. Blockade of CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 18 (acn) George Mavrikos, secretary general of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), condemned on Monday in this capital the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for over half a century now.

In a meeting with leaders of the Confederation of Cuban Workers (CTC), Mavrikos pointed out that the Caribbean nation is not alone and that countries condemning that criminal policy are many.
He informed that, next year, his organization will give lectures in several parts of the world, in order to strengthen the struggle against the U.S. blockade of Cuba and for the freedom of Cuban antiterrorists Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, incarcerated in the northern country.
In his speech, Mavrikos expressed his gratitude "to the Cuban physicians and other medical staff carrying out an honorable mission in West Africa, facing a dangerous epidemic like Ebola."
Mavrikos announced the circulation in 2015 of a special information bulletin in seven languages, which explains the Cuban presence in Africa.
This initiative will contribute to counteract the opinion of some sectors joining the U.S. government, which try to underestimate the humanitarian work of Cuban physicians in favor of the population and of poor communities.
