Cuba and Belgium Consolidate University Cooperation

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Nov 13 (acn) Cuba and Belgium strengthen relations of cooperation, asserted on Thursday Jan Cornelis, deputy rector of the Free University of Brussels, within the context of the opening of the Center of Advanced Teaching of Foreign Languages, at the University of Oriente (UO).

Cornelis told ACN that the Belgian institution has shown interest in developing projects with higher education centers far from Havana, for which they have contacted universities of the five eastern provinces, among them the UO of Santiago de Cuba, of proven prestige.
He highlighted that the Laboratory for the Learning of English, French and Spanish for the Caribbean area, at the Julio Antonio Mella venue, materialized from a previous experience at the Marta Abreu Central University of Villa Clara.
Programs linked to computer training, development of basic sciences for innovation, social and humanistic sciences, food security, pharmaceuticals, energy sources, medical equipment, and research in various spheres, among others, are included in the agreement.
The Belgian academician expressed his interest in continuing the strengthening of bonds with academic, scientific, technological and inter-cultural purposes maintained since 2012 by the Consejo Interuniversitario Flamenco -known as VLIR- with the UO for local development, and that will cover 12 years.
