HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 7 (ACN) Next Friday, November 11, unit 4 of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes thermoelectric power plant (CTE), in Cienfuegos, is expected to be synchronized to the national electric system, with a contribution of 130 megawatts (MW).
This was informed by engineer Yeranis Zurita Garcia, general director of the plant, whose block 4 stopped working on Monday, October 31, due to a breakdown in its main transformer.
According to a report by Granma newspaper, the specialist explained that once the necessary inspections were carried out, it was necessary to evacuate the oil inside the transformer for an inspection inside the tank, which detected a failure in a high-voltage bushing (bearing).
Among the work being carried out now, said Zurita Garcia, is the treatment of the oil extracted from the transformer, to bring it to operating parameters, and reintroduce it back into the tank, in addition to the subsequent drying of the transformer.
The CTE General Manager pointed out that the work should be completed by next Thursday, and thus begin the start-up for synchronization, which should take place on Friday.
