Over 135,000 users already have electric service in most affected province by hurricane

PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Oct 18 (ACN) Twenty-one days after hurricane Ian hit Pinar del Rio, more than 135,000 customers have electricity service, a recovery that has been complex considering the magnitude of the damages.

That figure represents 57.41 % of the users in this western territory, since in the municipality of Mantua these services were fully restored, and Sandino and Los Palacios are progressing at a good pace.

Yosvani Torres Hernandez, director of the Electric Company in this province, highlighted in a press conference the support of more than 140 brigades of linemen from almost all the provinces - a contingent from Camagüey will be added soon - as well as some 59 service cars and workers from the companies of the Cuban electric system.

San Luis, San Juan y Martinez and Consolación del Sur are the areas with the longest backlogs due to the damages caused by Ian and they are currently being emphasized.

Torres Hernandez highlighted the existence in Pinar del Rio of the necessary resources for the work, while others continue arriving from the Electric Company (Unión Eléctrica).

During its passage through the province last September 27, Ian caused the demolition of some 4,000 poles, 800 transformers and 106 kilometers of electric conductors.
