Hurricane Ian is now a Category 2 Hurricane Threatening Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 26 (ACN) Hurricane Ian has gained enough intensity and became a category II storm moving towards western Cuba, where it is expected to make landfall at early hours Tuesday at a point between the localities of San Juan y Martinez and Coloma in western Pinar del Rio province.

Satellite images have shown the storm’s 43.5 kilometer eye, which has 155 kilometer-per-hour winds with higher gusts as it keeps moving north north-west at 20 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile the external bands of the storm are affecting western Cuban territories and will increase their impact overnight, according to meteorologists.

The first Cuban territory to have been hit by the storm is the Isle of Youth, south to the western section of the main island of Cuba, where waves are as high as 5 and 7 meters.
