HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (ACN) Cuban first deputy foreign minister Gerardo Peñalver Portal is carrying out today a busy work agenda in Cambodia, including meetings with senior government representatives and the meeting of inter-foreign ministerial consultations.
On Twitter, the Cuban diplomat informed that in an exchange with the deputy PM and minister of foreign affairs of Cambodia, Prak Sokhonn, he thanked the traditional position of that country in the United Nations, in favor of the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.
At the meeting, both sides praised the historic ties and reaffirmed the will to increase cooperation in areas such as health, culture and sports, Cuban ambassador to Cambodia, Liurka Rodriguez Barrios, posted on the same social network.
Likewise, the senior official of the Caribbean nation met with the Secretary of State of the Cambodian foreign ministry, Ouch Borith, with whom he coincided in highlighting the existence of potentialities to expand cooperation in different fields.
During the day, Peñalver Portal was also received by the Cambodian health minister, Mam Bun Heng, and during the exchange they pointed out that Cuban medical collaboration and human resources training have been the main pillars of bilateral relations.
As part of the work schedule in Nom Pen, the Cuban diplomat will co-chair the meeting of foreign policy consultations, scheduled for Friday.
The visit to Cambodia is part of a tour to Indochina that will last until September 7 and is the prelude to the official visits that Cuban PM Manuel Marrero Cruz will make to these three countries at the end of September.
