HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 30 (ACN) Cuban Ministry of the Interior ( MININT) informed that, after a call to 107 (maritime emergency number), a request for help was received from an undetermined number of people involved in an illegal migration by sea, this August 28, in the area of Isabela de Sagua, in Villa Clara(central Cuba).
As part of the priority given to the fight against irregular migration and the principle of preserving human lives, a working group was immediately formed to carry out search and rescue work for these people, without knowing the exact location where they were.
A surface unit of the Border Guard Troops was immediately sent to carry out a search in the northern front of the municipality of Sagua la Grande, which was interrupted without results at night due to inclement weather, according to a statement published by Cubadebate.
Since before dawn on the 29th, the search actions were increased, incorporating five vessels of the Border and Fishing Troops, as well as a helicopter of the Revolutionary Air Force, with the objective of trying to find the people involved in this event.
The relatives have been duly informed of the search actions carried out so far, the statement reads.
Messages were sent to the United States Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force.
