SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Jul 19 (ACN) The Government of the province of Santiago de Cuba awarded the Merit for Life distinction to the Ernesto Che Guevara solidarity brigade from Spain and to Michele Curto, president of the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba, for their contribution to the fight against COVID-19.
In thanking the city of Santiago de Cuba for its hospitality, Silvia Román, president of the Spanish brigade, reasserted the members’ willingness to engage in more solidarity actions to contribute to the success of the projects deployed by the Cuban Revolution, which she described as a model of equality, sovereignty, welfare and defense of human rights and an example to all countries.
Curto, who described the distinction as a symbol of the ties of friendship and fraternity between Cuba and Italy, dedicated it to the Cuban people and their courage to cope with difficult situations and stressed that no other country has equaled Cuba’s achievements in tackling the pandemic with its own vaccines and medical staff.
The Merit for Life was instituted on December 28, 2021 to recognize people and workers’ collectives involved in the fight against COVID-19 in this province.
