Cuban central city celebrates its 333rd anniversary

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Jul 15 (ACN) The 333rd anniversary of this town in central Cuba, known by many as the city of Marta Abreu and Che, was celebrated today with the traditional meeting between Remedios and Santa Clara residents at the La Cruz Bridge and the subsequent tamarind walk in Carmen Park.

The meeting commemorates the arrival of about 18 families from Remedios, also known as the Eighth Village, who 333 years ago gave birth to the current provincial capital of Villa Clara.

In its most important park, Vidal, they paid tribute to Santa Clara's benefactress; the patriot Marta Abreu de Estevez, founder of several institutions for the benefit of society.

Several personalities of this city, born here or from other localities, but who in one way or another have contributed to its development and national relevance, were distinguished. The city was founded in 1689 by several families who are remembered in a monument formed by columns located in the square of the Church of Carmen, and in 1692 grew rapidly after a colossal fire that emptied the streets of Remedios, causing the population to move to Santa Clara.

Today it is a region with a rich history, great urban landscape values, a full culture and with potential in industry, agriculture, tourism, university education and other branches and sectors.
