Cuban easternmost province hosts activities for Pan-American Engineer's Day

GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Jul 11 (ACN) With an evocation of engineers Jose Lecticio Salcines Morlote and Lino Blanco Bustillo, continued today in Guantanamo the activities in honor of the Pan American Engineer's Day, established on July 20 for the entire continent.

These illustrious professionals received post mortem, in 2007, during the 6th Congress of the National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers (UNAICC by its Spanish acronym), the National Life and Work Award, the highest recognition granted by that social-professional organization.

During the 1st Pan-American Congress of Engineering (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1949), it was also awarded the first scientifically based enterprise to take advantage of part of the fluvial flow of the Island, supply water to Santiago de Cuba, generate cheap energy for the former province of Oriente and irrigate 5,000 hectares of the Guantanamo Valley.

Specialists of the Hydraulic Resources System in this province explained that the great engineering work does without the largest stream of the archipelago and focuses its efforts on the Yateras, a river that originates in the municipality of the same name and flows into the municipality of San Antonio del Sur.

To celebrate this day, diplomas of recognition were awarded to outstanding individuals and entities in the engineering field.
