HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (acn) A declaration approved on Thursday by a Cuban Parliamentary Hearing against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island stresses that the Cuban people will never surrender despite that economic war.
The fifty four year long US aggressions and economic war have had a huge economic cost on Cuba calculated at over one trillion dollars, considering the devaluation of the US dollar in front of gold at the world market, reads the statement.
The declaration, which was read by deputy Miriam Ofelia Ortega, describes the US blockade as the cruelest and most prolonged measure of its kind ever in contemporary history and calls on parliamentarians of the world to back the Cuban resolution to be presented at the UN General Assembly on October 28 demanding the lifting of the US´s anti-Cuba policy.
The hearing was attended by deputies, university students and a group of bloggers, who spread on the Internet the denunciations made at the meeting, which included violations of international law in general and the impact by the blockade in specific sectors of Cuban society.
The president of the Parliament´s International Relations Commission, Yolanda Ferrer, recalled that hearing was based on papers presented by lawmakers and guests on the effects of the over-50-year US blockade of Cuba.
