Cuba attends international meeting on the environment

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 2 (ACN) Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), will speak today online at the international meeting Stockholm+50: A healthy planet for the prosperity of all: our responsibility, our opportunity, which features keynote addresses, four plenary sessions and three leadership dialogues and closing sessions

Cuba is one of the 58 countries selected to make a presentation and describe the results of their national inquiries about the preservation and conservation of the environment.

Odalys Goicochea Cardoso, head of CITMA's General Environmental Division, said that it is an opportunity to share details about a considerable number of related actions implemented in Cuba to encourage the search for practical solutions now that COVID-19 is under control and in the midst of the persistent and harmful U.S. blockade. For example, she added, CITMA’s latest initiative, a bill on the System of Natural and Environmental Resources, recently approved by the Cuban Parliament.

Stockholm+50 sessions in the Swedish capital with the support of Kenya—home to the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Program—and in the context of the week-long celebration of World Environment Day on June 5.
