HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 23 (acn) Washington welcomes the possibility to jointly work with Cuba in the fight against Ebola, according to US media outlets citing a US State Department Source who asked to not be identified.
"We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Cuba in the fight on the Ebola epidemic. Cuba is making a significant contribution in sending hundreds of health workers to Africa," the source said.
"In this spirit, the US State Department is in contact with all members of the international community, including Cuba, who are involved in this global effort, either through multilateral channels or through diplomatic ways," the source added.
On Monday, Havana hosted a regional forum of heads of state to consider international efforts against Ebola. The US media also recalled a recent article by Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro saying that "we will willingly collaborate with the US personnel," in the fight against Ebola.
However, the source said that although Washington welcomed Cuban cooperation, bilateral relations still need to be readdressed. "We will keep working for more constructive relations between the United States and Cuba, though there are pending issues between the two countries to be analyzed.
