HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 22 (acn) Bruno Rodriguez, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met on Wednesday in this capital at the Foreign Ministry with his counterpart of Benin, Nassirou Bako-Arifari, who is on an official visit to Cuba.
The two parties met with the objective of holding productive talks on cooperation, in which matters of common interest that open greater possibilities for economic and political integration prevail.
Rodriguez expressed the Cuban government's satisfaction to receive the African official, who arrives in the island in the context of celebrations for the 40th anniversary of relations between Cuba and the Republic of Benin.
Bilateral bonds between the two countries develop mainly in the spheres of education, and new agreements to boost cooperation in the areas of health sports, culture and agriculture are expected to emerge from this visit.
The Cuban FM also thanked Benin for its support for Cuba in its struggle against the U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade and recalled that for the Caribbean nation relations with the African Union are a priority.
Bako-Arifari expressed his satisfaction to be in Cuba and verify the excellent state of diplomatic relations between the two nations, and said he was very impressed by the Cuban government's stance in the face of the Ebola epidemic. He recalled that so far 306 Beninese professionals have been trained in various areas in Cuban schools and stated his country's interest to continue increasing that figure.
