Cuba implements computerized weather stations, an advantage for cyclonic season

MATANZAS, Cuba, May 17 (ACN) With three of its seven weather stations fully automated, in the seaside resort of Varadero, the town of Playa Giron (south coast) and the municipality of Colon, the province of Matanzas is better prepared to face the imminent hurricane season.

Milagros Alfonso Cabrera, a specialist at the Provincial Meteorological Center, told the Cuban News Agency that it is an advantage to have the technology to gather, graph, tabulate and transmit the information in a timely manner.

Alfonso, who also holds a master's degree in science, explained that the high level of automation makes it possible to have accurate data in real time on the behavior of variables such as wind, temperature, pressure and humidity, especially in the northern and southern coastal areas and in the central region of the territory.

The Provincial Meteorological Center team will actively participate in the Meteoro 2022 Popular Exercise, on May 21 and 22, a favorable opportunity to agree with the authorities on the safeguards that will guarantee the vitality of the stations in case of emergency.
