Communist Party Politburo Reports on its Performance

Havana, April 26 (ACN) Communist Party First Secretary and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez called to acknowledge the collective leadership of the Communist organization along workers, youths, grassroots organizations and government agencies, as he described them all as the real protagonists of change.

Following the presentation of the Politburo’s working report covering the period between the 3rd and this Fourth Plenary Session of the political organization, Diaz-Canel said that no one can be satisfied with what has been achieved so far, much less regarding the work of the Communist Party, because there is a lot of challenges to meet, and once problems are overcome other problems await along the way.

In its past period of work, the Politburo focused on the implementation of the ideas, concepts and directives that stemmed from the 8th Communist Congress, with emphasis in its internal performance to extend to all the society the Program of Political-Ideological Transformations and meet the social and economic strategies and the cadre policy.

The report was submitted to the Plenary Session by the Secretary of Organization Roberto Morales Ojeda.

Political attention to the culture sector, the implementation of the social communication policy, the people’s debates on the Family Code draft, the political support of the Family Doctor and Nurse, as well as the economic and social strategy and the measures aimed at fighting current inflation, were among the action addressed by the Politburo in several meetings, according to the report.

Other issues on the Politburo’s agenda included the support of the improvement of socialist enterprises and other economic actors, the work of unions in today’s scenario, the improvement of agricultural organizations, and others.

Along with legislations approved, the Politburo has also prioritized the work with communities and neighborhoods under vulnerability conditions. The attention and control of the epidemiological situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects of the US blockade, the pandemic and the current military conflict in Europe, which deepens the current world economic crisis.

The political group has also followed the country’s energy stability, the effects of severe drought on the water supply, the shortage of medications, difficulties in passenger transportation, the shortage of foodstuffs in local shops, along with high prices.

During the session, the First Secretary of the Communist Party in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iribar addressed the significance of the socialist state companies and the need for their deep transformation. “The (Communist) Party must achieve a change in the work of Cuban entrepreneurs, ease restrictions so that the results of these companies lead to tangible projects in the benefit of the people.”

The report submitted to the plenary session expresses the intense work and the diversity of issues addressed which are of great significance for the life of Cuban society, said the First Secretary of the Communist Party in eastern Santiago de Cuba, Jose Ramon Monteagudo.

The debate of the report reflected the most recent working period of the political organization and what is still to be done as well as the commitment and resistance of the Cuban people and their leaders in defense of their Revolution.
