ARTEMISA, Cuba, Apr 26 (ACN) The popular debate on the draft of the new Family Code concluded in the province of Artemisa with a high citizen participation that shows the democracy of the current Cuba.
Vilma Zamora Hernandez, president of the Provincial Electoral Commission, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the preliminary data of the consultation with the people, which began last February, revealed that three 3,790 meetings were held in different spaces such as neighborhoods, schools and work centers and the attendance of more than 77% of voters.
As part of the established legal procedures, she specified, more than 12,000 statements were collected, with some 11,000 with proposals for the modification, addition and elimination of content in the articles included in the draft of the new Family Code.
Zamora Hernandez stressed that the population of the whole territory recognized the project as a reflection of Cuban society, where strengths appear from the affection, modernity and respect.
Parental responsibility, family violence and discrimination, care for the elderly, protection of children and adolescents, assisted reproduction and equal marriage were among the main issues discussed as the most transformative.
During the next few days, the electoral authorities of Artemisa will receive training for the National Popular Referendum, as well as the debate and voting by the National Assembly when the date is set.
