New water pipeline benefits rural area of Cuban central province

CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Apr 11 (ACN) The community of La Teresita, in the municipality of Majagua, in Ciego de Avila, has a guaranteed drinking water supply after the construction of a 1.6-kilometer pipeline that responds to a historical request of its 162 inhabitants.

Ruben Ramos Reina, chief specialist of hydraulic works in the province, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the pipeline was installed near the community and connected to the existing networks.

A total of 1,549 inhabitants receive water from the La Pollera supply source, located in the municipal capital, which so far is kept at acceptable levels, the specialist added.

La Teresita, a rural area bordering the municipality of Jatibonico, Sancti Spiritus, had been receiving the vital liquid in tankers for some years, because the pumping equipment suffered damages that were never solved due to the fact that the Bachiplan, an area belonging to the ministry of construction, stopped working.

With the installation of pipelines or the maintenance of the existing ones, the Aqueduct and Sewage System in Ciego de Avila improved in 2021 the water supply to the population of several rural communities, such as La Clementina, Los Naranjos, Las Coloradas, La Susana and El Güiro.
