HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 17 (acn) Three people died and 64 were injured in a traffic accident near the western Cuban town of Los Palacios, between Havana and Pinar del Rio, as a truck transporting passengers went off of the speedway and overturned.
The regrettable accident claimed the lives of Cubans Jose Manuel Reyes (27), from Mantua, Pinar del Rio; Roberto Perez Rodriguez, elder citizen from Los Palacios, and Julio Elier Reyes (25), from the town of San Cristobal.
The injured persons were taken to local hospitals, with six of them in critical conditions; some others underwent emergency surgery on cranial and orthopedic damage.
A pregnant woman also traveling on the private truck is out of danger for her life as well as three young girls, reads the report by the local Guerrillero newspaper.
Yaumar Hernandez, who was on the truck, said he could not have an idea of the speed of the truck but he said that at some point on the road, the driver suddenly kicked the breaks and the truck made a turn to the right and overturned.
Local Communist Party, government and health authorities went immediately to the place of the accident along with members of the Interior Ministry, who are now investigating the causes of the accident.
