Cuba warns of the need for collaboration and peace between countries

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 4 (ACN) Without collaboration and alliances, without peace and respect among countries, we will not succeed in changing the future, said in Kenya Jose Fidel Santana Nunez, head of the Cuban delegation to the Special Session of the United Nations Assembly for the 50th anniversary of the UN Environment Program (UNEP).

The existence of policies for the preservation of the environment requires human and financial resources and access to technologies, without discrimination or selectivity criteria of any kind, also argued Santana Nuñez, first deputy minister of the Cuban ministry of science, technology and environment.

In any case, such a situation will allow the poorest and most vulnerable people to improve their living conditions and reverse environmental damage, he warned during his official speech.

In this sense, we thank UNEP for its repeated denunciations of the application of this policy that hinders the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems that Cuba and the United States share, limits environmental cooperation in the region and affects the implementation of projects, the transfer of funds to the country and the use of new technologies, he added.

However, the Cuban official reiterated his nation's willingness to implement its multilateral environmental commitments through policies that coherently harmonize the demands of economic growth with environmental sustainability.

This organization should be the multilateral platform best equipped with scientific evidence and proposals for solutions to existing problems, making more use of social sciences to plan the real possibilities for change, especially by the private sector, whose economic interests are a determining factor in human action on ecosystems, Santana Nunez emphasized.
