HOLGUIN, Cuba, Mar 1 (ACN) The Inejiro Asanuma Spinning Plant in the province of Holguin strengthens production for the health sector in Cuba as a way to replace imports in the face of the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island more than six decades ago.
Located in the municipality of Gibara, since the beginning of efforts to confront COVID-19 two years ago, this industry increased the production of resources such as swabs, gauze and medical protection articles, masks, caps and boots to support the hygienic-sanitary actions in the midst of the spread of the pandemic in this territory.
Aida Oro Lao, director of this entity for almost 30 years, explained to the Cuban News Agency that through the use of raw material and leftover offcuts, the industry has also produced bandages for the protection of wounds and plaster for immobilization in case of any injury or fracture.
The center is also distinguished by the manufacture of sheets, pillows, mattresses, tablecloths, napkins and blankets for cleaning floors or surfaces and articles that are in turn commercialized by other sectors such as tourism.
During the last period, she stressed, this plant also boosted the production of plastics in order to generate different packaging formats, a resource in high demand by the mini-industries of Holguin and the new forms of non-state management dedicated to food processing and its commercialization to companies and residents of the province.
The directive added that the sustainability of the manufacturing industry is largely due to the innovation process deployed by the workers of the center and the updating of 90 % of the technology in the last two years, an investment that allowed expanding the production capacity and replacing the simple cotton yarn imported by the country.
In general, this industry provides more than 30 assortments for sectors such as food, agriculture and tourism in Cuba, through the productive work of the spinning, plastic packaging, non-woven fabrics, mattresses and garments workshops, which are interlinked with each other.
