CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Feb 25 (ACN) Unit number three of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes thermoelectric power plant, in Cienfuegos province, synchronized today to the National Electroenergy System, after concluding the maintenance to restore the generation capacity in that block.
Engineer Yeranis Zurita, director of that entity, told the Cuban News Agency that gradually the Japanese technology unit will be able to reach 158 megawatts/hour, a valuable backup for the country's power supply.
The executive indicated that, from February 3 to date, the main rehabilitation works included the renovation of the secondary heater duct, which reported a failure in the temperature control unit where the steam heat is regulated.
Other actions are notable for their complexity, such as the repair of the boiler, where they undertook the assembly of the refractory work, which required an extra effort to handle the heavy weights of equipment and parts.
They also changed the rotors in the forced draft fans, thus improving the efficiency of the furnaces in that unit, he added.
The work to revitalize the generator was carried out by members of the Power Plant Maintenance Company, whose work is characterized by efficiency and quality.
This unit was opened by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz on December 5, 1978, and was joined shortly after by block number four, also of Japanese technology.
