Manzanillo, Cuba, Feb 23 (ACN) The eastern coastal Cuban settlement of Manzanillo was one of the communities picked in Cuba, along the city of Camaguey, for the implementation of the international and research project Nature4Cities.
The initiative aims at the strengthening of institutional capacities and planning to undertake transformation though technical resources, methos and tools that may facilitate the decision-taking process in terms of urban planning.
In a recent meeting with Manzanillo authorities, the representative of the project in Cuba, Gabriela Garcia, explained that the new experience can achieve better understanding and management of environmental risks.
Garcia said that the project also aims at stepping up adaptation to nature-based solutions, including the emerging private economic sector and at increasing resilience in the population against climate change effects.
Nature4Cities Project can be implemented in two years involving Cuba and regions of other countries like Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador.
The project is sponsored by the Green Climate Fund and the UN Program for the Environment, and in Cuba it is led by the Institute for Planning and the Science, Technology and Environment Ministry, along other Cuban State institutions.
