Cubans Will Mark International Women Day in Every Corner of the Island

Havana, Feb 21 (ACN) Cubans will kick off celebrations for International Women’s Day, to be marked March 8, since February 24 and up to March 15 in all communities, said the secretary general of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) Teresa Amarelle.

A central ceremony will be held March 8 at the Mausoleum of the Frank Pais 2nd Frente Oriental, a region in the easter province of Santiago de Cuba, said Amarelle and added that a workshop on the implementation of the Women’s Empowering National Program will also be part of celebrations.

Amarelle, who is also member of the Politburo of Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee also announced that the period of celebrations will include exchanges with activists and members of entities who have helped the implementation of the Women’s Empowering Program and the Integral Strategy to prevent and address genre violence in the family environment, in order to meet the challenges facing these projects on a future approach.

Cubans in several provinces have planned productive work, climbing of historic mountains, bike parades, book launches, sports marathons, university-related activities and others, said the official and noted that the Women’s Federation will grant the March 8th Prize which honors personalities in the culture sector whose works promote equality and respect for diversity.

Over 20 meetings with women professionals from different social and economic sectors are also on the agenda of the celebrations as well as exchanges with young feminists at higher education centers.

With the hashtag #MujeresEnRevolucion, many Cubans will send messages on Twitter on International Women’s Day.
The Cuban Women’s Federation has four million 300 thousand members.
