Cuban Reality on the Spotlight of Visiting French Parliamentarians

Havana, Feb 18 (ACN) A group of French lawmakers are expected to visit Cuba March 3-10 to have a first-hand look at the local vaccine production, economic transformations and the impact by the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island nation.

In statements to PL news agency, French lawmaker François-Michel Lambert, who heads the France-Cuba Friendship parliamentary group, said that eight or nine parliamentarians from different political parties will join him to Cuba to strengthen ties with the island and address aspects of the local reality.

“We will meet an intense agenda for this visit which we consider very important to deepen relations between our countries and our two parliaments,” said François-Michel Lambert.

Lambert stressed the interest of French lawmakers in learning about the Cuban COVID-19 vaccines and other homegrown products to fight different diseases; they also want to learn abut the new constitution and laws, the currency unification and recent increase of the private sector.

The lawmaker said that France and the European Union could increase their support of Cuba against the US blockade, whose extraterritorial nature affects European companies, banks and even citizens.

France and Cuba have historically developed links of cooperation and friendship, which have been boosted since 2012 with high-level government meetings.
