New Group of Haitian Activists Visits Cuba

Artemisa, Cuba, Jan 19 (ACN) A second group of activists with the 5th Anténor Firmin Haitian Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba kicked of a working agenda in Cuba following the successful stay here by a first group of Haitian youths.

The activists are students from Haitian Cape’s Foreign Relations and Diplomacy Institute who are staying at Artemisa’s Julio Antonio Mella rural camp. They are all willing to express their support of the Cuban people during this trip which was put off over the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brigade coordinator Rosana Guercy expressed appreciation for the welcome given to the activists and described as successful the previous visit by a first group of Haitian students, who left their testimonies of admiration.

A third group of activists will close these visits to Havana on February 1st and will bring a donation of items for the rural camp.

The Haitian activists have joined agricultural work in areas near the camp and have attended lectures on the Cuban political system and the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba. The program also includes visits to the Havana-based Fidel Castro Center and the Raul Roa Foreign Relations Institute.

The Haitian brigade was named after Haitian politician and anthropologist Antenon Firmin (1850-1911).
