Marrero Cruz commemorates 153rd anniversary of El Diablo Cojuelo

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 19 (ACN) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz evoked today the 153rd anniversary of the printing of the only issue of the National Apostle José Martí’s first political newspaper article El Diablo Cojuelo, published on January 19, 1869 in Havana by José Martí and Fermín Valdés Domínguez.

Considered the Apostle's first political work, El Diablo Cojuelo included in its four pages an editorial and several satirical notes on the press and events of its time.

Printed at El Iris, a print shop and bookstore located on Havana’s Obispo Street, “El Diablo Cojuelo” was named after the homonymous book written by the Spanish dramatist and novelist Luis Vélez de Guevara.
