Diaz-Canel highlights Daniel Ortega's victory and its significance for Latin America

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 10 (ACN) On behalf of the people and government of Cuba, and of Army General Raul Castro, President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated Nicaraguans today on the victory of Daniel Ortega in last November's elections.

Upon his arrival in Managua for the swearing-in of the re-elected president, Diaz-Canel told the press that the electoral result has an enormous significance for the leftist forces and for the progressive governments of Latin America and the Caribbean.

This victory shows the anti-imperialist conviction of the Nicaraguan people and their decision to continue advancing in the profound political, social and economic transformations of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, the Cuban leader assured.

Roberto Lopez Gomez, executive minister president of the Nicaraguan Social Security Institute, welcomed at the Augusto Cesar Sandino airport the Cuban delegation, which also included the president's advisor, Luis Alberto Rodriguez Lopez-Calleja, and the Cuban ambassador to Nicaragua, Jorge Luis Mayo Fernandez.

According to the Cuban presidency, Diaz-Canel's agenda in Managua will include meetings with Cuban residents, friends of the island, diplomats and embassy officials.

In this regard, the Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, said on the same social media that it will be an opportunity to continue deepening the political dialogue and expand ties between the two nations.

On November 7, Daniel Ortega was reelected as Nicaraguan president with 75.87 % of the votes, the fifth victory for him, and the fourth in a row since 2007.
