Cuban medical publishing house launches nursing manual on humanized childbirth

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (ACN) The Medical Sciences Publishing House (Ecimed) has released the Humanized Childbirth Nursing Manual in Cuba, whose full text in PDF format (4.09 MB) is available in the Books by Cuban Authors section of the Virtual Health Library of Cuba.

The main objective of this volume is to provide obstetrics professionals, and particularly gynecobstetric nurses, with the necessary theoretical basis for the implementation in Cuba of the respectful and humanized care model for women, newborns and their families during childbirth.
All this with tools to improve the quality of care with a comprehensive approach, according to information published on Cuba's health portal Infomed.

The manual includes methods, techniques and procedures, as well as other specific functions of gynecobstetric nursing professionals to achieve humanized childbirth, which have not been described in the country.

Written by a group of authors, the text has six chapters addressing the humanistic conception of childbirth; gynecobstetric nursing in Cuba; and the Model of respectful and humanized care during labor and birth.

It also contemplates the Implementation of the model in hospital obstetric services; Humanized care of the newborn during childbirth; and Childbirth, a communicative situation that requires attention.

Experts say that the benefits of humanized childbirth include less stress for the mother and baby; it improves the childbirth experience and the mother-child bond and favors breastfeeding.
