Today, virtual meeting on best road safety practices

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 17 (ACN) The National Road Safety Commission (CNSV) confirmed the start today of its first Conference on Good Practices, to be held online due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Organized together with the Transport Research Institute and the National Division of the Young Computer and Electronics Club network (JCCE), the event aims to provide a space for reflection and disseminate Cuba’s experience about these issues in coordination with the CNSV commissions in the rest of the provinces.

The main topics for debate are related to info-communicational practices for road safety management and the use of digital media, infrastructure and road signs.

Despite the traffic restrictions imposed by the pandemic, there were 5,612 accidents between January and September 2021 where 350 people died and 3,700 were. That is, 84 more deaths than the previous year.

The main causes were ascribed to negligence by both drivers and pedestrians and poor vehicle control on the part of the former.

Cuba holds a National Traffic Conference every year from November 8 to 28 to promote people’s observance of good road safety practices.
