Raul Castro Meets Visiting Vietnamese President

Havana, Sept 20 (ACN) Former Cuban President, Army General Raul Castro met on Monday with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc who paid a three-day state visit to the Caribbean island nation.

The Vietnamese president conveyed cordial greetings from the General Secretary of Vietnam’s Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong, while Raul Castro extended an invitation to the Vietnamese political leader to visit Cuba.

Xuan Phuc said that the large Vietnamese delegation that accompanied him to the island, the agenda he met here plus the accords reached express the special nature of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Cuba who share solid bonds of friendship.

Raul and Xuan Phuc agreed that the visit by the Vietnamese leader was successful despite the context in which it took place, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic whose difficulties have been worsened by the US sanctions against the island.

The Vietnamese leader was accompanied by Phan Ding Trac, member of the Politburo and the secretariat of the Vietnamese Communist Party and head of its Internal Affairs Commission; Bui Thanh Son, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and minister of foreign affairs.
On the Cuba side was Marcelino Medina, Cuban interim foreign minister.
