HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 11 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla called today for international cooperation and the full implementation of the Paris Convention and Agreement to curb global warming and noted that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that failure to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions will make it impossible to reach the goal of limiting global warming to around 1.5ºC or even 2ºC.
According to a recent IPCC statement, scientists are observing changes in the Earth's climate in all regions and in the climate system as a whole; such changes in climate are unprecedented in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years, and some that are already occurring, such as continued sea level rise, may not be reversed for several centuries or millennia.
They point out that a substantial and sustained reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases would curb climate change and warn that, even if improvements in air quality would be rapid, it could take 20 to 30 years for global temperatures to stabilize.
