Viet Nam-Cuba Cooperation Favors Rice Production

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 18 (acn) Data published on Thursday by the Cubahora digital magazine evidence the importance of the Cuba-Vietnam cooperation project signed in 2002 for the replacement of rice imports on the island.

Only 45 percent of the cereal consumed in national territory comes from Cuban fields, however, the situation of imports has improved since the implementation of the agreement.
Cuba has potential to cover rice consumption needs for its people and Vietnam is willing to help it with technical advisory and equipment, Duong Minh, Vietnam's ambassador to Cuba told the magazine.
Thanks to this project that has been increasingly extended to almost all of the country's provinces, there shouldn't be any difficulty to achieve the goals set for 2015, particularly the increase of yields to over 5 tons per hectare, he added.
