Violence is not the answer to Cuba's problems

ARTEMISA, Cuba, Jul 14 (ACN) Violence is not the answer to Cuba's problems, local residents of this province remarked following the acts of vandalism that took place Sunday as part of riots in several municipalities of Artemisa and other regions of the country.

The inhabitants of the town of Güira de Melena will not forget that day, not only because of the unusual nature of the events, but also because of the damage rioters caused to several stores, to the detriment of the national economy.

Town folks told ACN that they totally disagreed, as it was not necessary to attack state property to establish a dialogue with the authorities and get answers to questions that concern many, such as the situation about electric power and the sanitary intervention with vaccine candidates in view of the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Proof of this, they claimed, was the timely exchange that took place between the population and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel in the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños on Sunday, where the leader heard requests from and current concerns among the local citizens.

Some pointed out that it is true that we are faced with multiple hardships, but none is unique to Cuba, although the Island is having it worse because of the context in which the country is living.

Given the actions that took place, there is a justified fear that the number of COVID-19 cases will rise even more due to the crowding of people and the lack of adequate health precautions during the events.
