HAVANA, Cuba12 (acn) The Assistant Director-General for Polio, Emergencies and Country Collaboration of the World Health Organization (WHO), Bruce Alward, thanked Cuba on Thursday for its solidarity with other nations of the world in the field of health.
Alward accompanied Cuban Public Health Minister Roberto Morales during a visit to the emergency center created by the WHO to permanently monitor the development of the Ebola fever epidemic in West Africa, the Cubadebate Web site reported.
Morales recalled that there are presently over 50,000 Cuban health workers in 66 nations, 32 of them African. He explained that the purpose of his visit to Geneva is to assess how his country can respond to the call made by WHO director general Margaret Chan and by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for global efforts against Ebola.
The Cuban Minister and his accompanying delegation are taking part in a work meeting with WHO officials.
