Cuba hosts virtual event on humanistic sciences education

MATANZAS, Cuba, Jun 22 (ACN) The 8th International Workshop on Teaching Humanistic Studies is being held for the first time online, from today until the 24th, coordinated by the local University of Matanzas(western Cuba) and with representatives from seven countries.

Delegates from Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Chile, Ecuador, Spain and all the provinces of Cuba are participating in the virtual meeting to socialize scientific results in the context of education in the 21st century and, especially, in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Barbara Fierro Chong, coordinator of the event, told Cuban News Agency (ACN) that it is a prelude to the Chiapas-Central America International Book Fair, to be held next September, with the University of Matanzas as the guest of honor.

More than 300 presentations will be delivered in 11 working commissions during the three-day meeting, which included in the agenda of its first day a keynote lecture by Jose Antonio Bartol Hernandez, professor at the University of Salamanca, on the teaching of the lexicon.

With the participation of Cubans and foreigners, the courses Studies of lexical availability and richness, and Higher Education in Cuba in times of pandemic, both given by professors from the University of Matanzas, located in this western city, were given.

The coordinator of the 8th Workshop highlighted the usefulness of the biennial event to defend the cultural identity in a global scenario marked by the epidemic caused by the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus, and highlighted the presentation of books and magazines of pedagogical, scientific and cultural nature
