SAN ANTONIO DE LOS BAÑOS, Artemisa, Cuba, Sept 6 (acn) Army General Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the councils of State and Ministers conferred on Friday the Antonio Maceo Order on the Air Force Brigade of the Playa Giron Guard, on the occasion of its 55th anniversary.
At the institution's General Staff, Raul unveiled a replica of the Order cast in bronze. The decoration was received with pride by Colonel Salvador Mengana, head of the Air Force Brigade of the Playa Giron Guard, located in the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños and founded in 1959 by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.
In his closing speech, Major General Lucio Morales, head of the Army of the West, recalled the glorious service record of the Brigade and its participation in Bay of Pigs, in the October Crisis and in internationalist missions in six nations.
