MATANZAS, Cuba, Aug 19 (acn) The Department of Studies on Ten-Syllable Verses of the University of Matanzas, has announced the 5th Colloquium "Day of the Spanish-American Decima (ten-syllable verses)" for September 28 and 29, as a tribute to the immaterial cultural heritage of the Cuban nation.
In order to encourage oral and written expressions of stanzas, the meeting will include a countryside party to honor creator Jesus Orta Ruiz (1922-2005), at the Nabori Center of the municipality of Limonar, and a theoretical meeting at the University of Matanzas located on the outskirts of this city.
Carlos Chacon Zaldivar, president of the Department of Studies on Ten-Syllable Verses, explained that amateurs, researchers, professors and students of the various academies and cultural centers can participate in this meeting on the history and development of these verses.
Since 1998, the Day of the Spanish-American Decima is marked every September 30, the day when poet Jesus Orta Ruiz, known as Indio Nabori, paradigm of creators of improvised and written ten-syllable verses, was born in the second decade of the 20th century.
